Shawangunk Mountain Range Biking
The Shawangunk mountain range, or affectionately
known as the GUNKS in the Hudson Valley, located just 90 miles
north of NYC, is the premiere outdoor spot for cyclists, hiking
and rockclimbing! Home of Mohonk mountain House and Minnewaska
State Park. Nestled in the hamlet of Gardiner, NY, is Lightsey
Cycles. You will feel welcomed by the warm and friendly atmosphere
and good energy of this hip bike shop. Kirk Lightsey , owner
and certified bike technician has been a bike enthusiast for
over 20 years and a passionate race participant in the NY
state mountain bike series as well as local races from NY
to Vermont. He brings experience, commitment and enthusiasm
for the sport and adventure of cycling. He is a true believer
in the freedom and health benefits that bicycling can bring
to all ages and is dedicated to promoting bicycling to the
surrounding communities as well as the welcomed seasonal tourists.
Located just 6 miles south of the town of New Paltz, Gardiner is the other town east of the gunks with direct
access to the plentiful mountain trails. The Shawangunks offers
carriage roads and trails for the relaxing scenic ride, the
adventurous freewheeling spin and the down and dirty ride
for the not so faint of heart! Visit Minnewaska State Park
for an unforgettable day filled with inviting trails and breathtaking
vistas as you make your way around this beautiful lake. Perhaps
Mohonk Mountain house is more your style with its rich history,
landscape and four star Spa.
Lightsey Cycles is located directly on the
RailTrail which sits below the shawank range, running parallel
to this visual masterpiece along with the Walkill River. Miles
of dirt and paved trails that runs from town to town await
you. This trail offers the single or group cyclists and families
an even flat surface to tool along or make up some miles without
distractions or hazards of traffic with young ones in tow.
Seasoned road cyclists flock to the Hudson Valley for its
long country roads, fresh mountain air and beautiful scenery.
We are a landscape filled with apple orchards and pumpkin
patches, organic farms and grazing horses. We would love for
you to come and visit.
